Gratitude for healing, and for the present understanding of God's divine law and its application to all ray needs, impels me to relate my experience in Christian Science.
Nearly eleven years ago I was severely injured in a railway wreck, the result being that I was left a helpless cripple, both legs being paralyzed from the hips down. After about fifteen months of the most painstaking medical treatment, I recovered sufficiently to get around without much difficulty, yet the strain which I was under during this time and the many concomitant troubles seemed too much for me. While I was able to get about and in a manner attend to business, it was necessary constantly to resort to medicine in order to keep up, and frequently even then there were times when I was forced to go to bed, sometimes for a few hours, and again for two weeks or more.
About two years ago, while on a short business trip, I was seized with severe pain, which quickly developed into an acutely inflamed condition. I at once started for home, becoming, however, so ill that my one thought was to get there before the end came. As soon as I arrived a physician was summoned, and he did all he could to relieve me; but in a short time it was apparent that he could do little more than stave off for a few days what appeared to be the inevitable. I was then ready to try Christian Science, and at the advice of my wife a practitioner was summoned by telephone and requested to come at once, as the case was urgent. She gladly took up the work, but assured us that her presence was not needed, that there was no separation in divine Love.
