In deep gratitude for all the blessings received through Christian Science I wish to tell of some of them. From childhood I suffered with headache and was never strong, although many kinds of medicine were taken. After marriage I was always nervous and often felt more inclined to die than to live. In 1904, after the birth of my fourth child, I broke down completely and was in bed for more than two months. Half a year later I was not able to rise from a chair or to walk without help. In this condition I felt myself to be a worry for my husband and of no use to my children or in my home.
This went on until 1906, when a friend lent me a copy of a Christian Science lecture which had been translated into Norwegian. I had never heard of this teaching before and read the lecture eagerly, hoping to find therein the truth about God. I could understand very little of it, but my desire to know more led me to visit the reading room in Christiania. The librarian there kindly answered my questions, and advised me to buy the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. At first I refused to do this, because I could not understand the English language, but the librarian told me the truth about God and man; and that man in God's likeness, reflecting the perfectness, intelligence, and power of God, is never too old to learn. I began the study of Science and Health with the aid of a dictionary, but now I understand that God is our only helper.
During my study of the textbook, which opened up the meaning of the Bible, I gradually became stronger, and within four months was completely healed. Since this first joy of feeling as a new woman, I have had many proofs of the healing power of the truth which Christian Science teaches. My little daughter was taken ill with a throat trouble, supposedly caused by infected milk. I communicated with a Christian Science practitioner and absent treatment was at once taken up, with the result that the child arose from her feverish sleep and asked for food, which she had not wanted for two days. The next day she was out of bed playing, and after that rapidly recovered. Later on this little girl was healed of whooping-cough in three weeks. Measles was overcome after a few days, the fever leaving the first day.
