Testimonies of Healing

I did not take up the study of...

From the October 1917 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I did not take up the study of Christian Science for physical healing, although I had been afflicted with headaches since childhood and had suffered from throat troubles so long that they seemed a part of me and I never expected to be healed. The tonsils had been removed, but still the throat trouble continued. I felt that friends who were studying Christian Science were enjoying life so much and doing so much good that I was led to look into it. I therefore purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, also ordered the Journal, Sentinel, and Quarterly, and began the study in earnest.

At that time life seemed to me like "chaos and old night;" I was almost overwhelmed with physical and mental trials. With the study of Christian Science came the resolve to stand fearlessly for the right; try to live the golden rule and "overcome evil with good." I have been healed of the diseases mentioned, also of sciatic rheumatism, as well as of hatred and resentment, and for this healing I am most grateful. For over five years I have depended wholly on the great Physician who heals all our diseases and forgives all our iniquities, and every need has been met; therefore I have a reason for the faith that is in me.

I am indeed grateful for the physical healing, but the spiritual understanding of God as all powerful, ever present Life, Truth, Love, Spirit; the understanding of Christ as "the divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error" (Science and Health, p. 583), has enabled me to demonstrate the word of God and is the most beautiful thing which ever came into my life. It has made the study of the Bible a pleasure instead of a duty. I am very grateful for our wonderful "Key to the Scriptures," and am thankful for the privilege of class instruction. I deeply appreciate the work performed by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and am trying to prove my gratitude by my daily living.—
