I take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the many blessings received through the study of Christian Science. We are grateful that the sense of fear and doubt vanishes as we lay hold on the verities of eternal truth.
Recently we had a proof of God's protecting power in what to mortal sense might have been a serious accident. While visiting in the country my six year old daughter was put on a horse's back for the first time, and the horse was led up and down by older children. When they returned to the corral one of the boys, who had never had any experience with horses, removed the bridle before taking the child off, and without warning, the horse dashed away with the child on its back. I was near by, watching the children, and without a thought of fear turned to God, knowing positively that the child was in His care and perfectly safe.
I was conscious only of God and His love for all His children, when a friend called to me, saying the horse had stopped and the child had been safely dismounted. The horse had run about eighty feet, when it suddenly stopped just long enough for some one to take the child off; then it started away again, jumped a fence, and ran out into an orchard. As I took the little one in my arms, too full of gratitude for words, she said, "Mother, I knew divine Love would hold me on." We had perfect confidence in the ever-presence of God, this experience proving again to us that He is our "very present help in trouble." We have had many such proofs.
