Because of the many blessings received through Christian Science, I would like to tell of my healing sixteen years ago. I returned home from a large hospital in New York City, where I had been under the care of the most skilled surgeons, with the hope that I should have health; but my condition grew worse rapidly and a more serious operation was contemplated. Then I heard of one who was healed through Christian Science, and this testimony was enough to lead me to seek a practitioner, although I had never before heard that Christian Science healed disease.
I was in constant suffering physically, but the mental state was worse than the physical. Having rejected the teaching about God received from childhood, as I could not reconcile the thought of God as Love with that of suffering, I was reaching a state bordering on infidelity. I can never describe the comfort of the message that came to me in reading Science and Health, telling me that God does not make His children sick, but bestows all good. Often in the midst of seeming pain I gained some measure of consciousness of the perfection of my being, and knew that as God's child I was never sick.
This correct line of reasoning led me to the mount of revelation, where the truth of being was revealed. For the first time in my life I had a realizing sense of the presence of God, and knew Him to be "a God at hand," and not afar off. As thought opened to these truths a sense of health was gained, and as my confidence in good grew through the right knowledge of God, my faith in and fear of matter' and medical laws lessened, until the coulds of mortal belief, which was the only basis of ill health, disappeared. Although the healing was slow, covering a period of several years, it was complete, and therefore I can bear grateful testimony to the fact that Christian Science does heal organic disease beyond the power of surgery to do so.
