With a heart full of thankfulness to God I testify to the many blessings received through Christian Science. Almost all of them have been brought about by the reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and by earnest attention to the Sunday services. Since birth I had suffered from asthma in its extreme form, so that I had to be kept under the effects of chloroform when these attacks occurred, and finally became so addicted to the use of this drug that I could not sleep without it. In 1907 I had to face separation from a loved one, and lost my entire financial support. In this extremity I concluded the wisest thing to do was to end my life, which I attempted to do by using a large quantity of this same drug; but to my amazement, after I had been unconscious for about two hours I found myself up, with the gas lighted and Science and Health in my hands. I spent the remainder of the night reading the Bible and our text-book, and from that day to this have neither needed the drug nor had any desire to use it. The asthma left me in like manner, though I had no treatment for either of these conditions.
I have also been healed of a malignant growth and of what was considered a kidney affection. Four doctors had wanted to operate on me, but as my mother and sister had both passed on with this disease after being operated on, I would not give my consent. Instead I clung to God, telling no one of the fear that was within, but praying constantly, knowing that God was the only physician who could heal me. Finally I called upon a practitioner, and was healed in one treatment. Within a week the enlarged side was absolutely normal, and the stagnant condition of the bowels and kidneys was entirely overcome.
I trust this testimony will encourage those who are suffering as I was, and help them to reach out to this healing truth. Words cannot express my love and gratitude to that good woman, Mrs. Eddy, who brought this light to us anew, enabling us to know that God heals all our diseases in this age even as He did when Jesus was here.— New York, N.
