Testimonies of Healing

It is a deep sense of gratitude to...

From the April 1917 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is a deep sense of gratitude to God that prompts me to tell of the many blessings that have come to me through Christian Science. All that I am and all that I have I owe to this blessed truth. For years I was a great sufferer from chronic inflammation of the bowels, kidney and bladder trouble, stomach disorder, neuritis, and other ailments. Our family physician told me there was no hope of my ever being well again, and said he never knew of any one recovering when in my condition, or even when half as ill.

I am indeed thankful that "man's extremity is God's opportunity," for through His loving-kindness I was guided to a Christian Science practitioner. In less than two weeks the bowel disorder was fast disappearing, and it has been entirely overcome. I was almost instantaneously healed of constant suffering of eight years' standing, which prevented me from lying down day or night unless an application of some kind was used. This particular healing encouraged me to continue until entire freedom was realized. Prior to this relief I had a great fear that this condition would drive me insane, as it did not seem humanly possible to endure the suffering much longer. It was not long, however, before all the ailments had disappeared under Christian Science treatment. For years I had been in such poor health that it was difficult for me to walk or talk, and it seemed to hurt me to hear others talk. For many months prior to my healing I did not know what it was to have a good night's rest.

For five years before turning to Christian Science I wanted to try it, but was afraid to do so, fearing that it was not of God. I had said many times I did not believe there was healing for me except through the power of God, but I did not know how to find it or lay hold of it until Christian Science showed me the way. I have had ample proof that this teaching is of God; that it leads us to rely more fully upon Him, and awakens within us a strong desire to strive to follow in the footsteps of Jesus the Christ.
