Bathed in the roseate light of day,
Love's thought glanced gladly on its way.
Behold, afar, a bush in flame!
From out the fire the message came.
Love breathed a thought with healing barbed.
One flung it onward, richly garbed.
Behold! in attic chill with death
A life restored through prophet's breath.
Again the thought returned to earth
To witness for its royal birth.
Behold! a sense of pain and woe
Exchanged for Soul with life aglow.
Yet once again 'twas flashed from space,
And swept in hell a sodden face.
Then rose a voice which vibrant rang
To swell the song the angels sang.
Love glowed full orbed through prison cell,
With angel whisper, All is well!
Great scales fell from the curtained eyes,—
My God, all-good, I will arise!
Like sweet arbutus' fragrant breath
Truth woos a man from sleep of death;
Awakes him from the dream of lies.
Father, he sings, I now arise!
