From the August 1917 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am indeed grateful to have the privilege of adding my testimony to the periodicals, in order that some one in need of physical or mental help may derive benefit from it. It is four years since Christian Science was recommended to my wife by a physician who said he had done all he could for her. A Christian Science practitioner was interviewed and treatment was given, with the result that my wife received immediate relief.

I had scoffed at this Science and did not have any use for what I considered such nonsense, but as time went on I would occasionally pick up the pamphlets and periodicals and read them when I thought no one was noticing me. Finally, without being asked to do so, I went to a Wednesday evening meeting, and it was the shortest hour I ever passed. A week or ten days later I went to a practitioner to find out more about this new-old religion. Since that time there has not been a drop of medicine in our house. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and the Bible have been our only physician. Through the help of practitioners and our little understanding of God as Life, Truth, and Love, we have been able to overcome financial problems, also such physical discords as blood-poisoning, hemorrhages of the nose, throat affection, and severe cases of influenza, while our baby girl was healed of whooping-cough in four days. For all these benefits I am more grateful than words can express.

Above all, I am thankful to God for giving us such a beautiful character as Mrs. Eddy, who was so pure in thought, so humble, and so unselfish that with unceasing effort she was able to unfold the Bible to all mankind, that they might be free from the bondage of physical and mental discords. Christian Science has made a man of me; has given confidence when I had fear; has brought to my thought that man's birthright is dominion over all things unlike God. Every day I am experiencing new proofs of God's power, and I pray daily to gain the understanding that will help to bring all mankind to a knowledge of Him as our Father-Mother God.—
