Christian Science healed me of enlargement of the liver and spleen, and a short time after enabled me to overcome the tobacco habit, and has since been my only resort for every need. I began using tobacco when quite a small boy and had used it to such an extent that the doctor said it was affecting my heart and advised me to discontinue its use. I tried hard to make up my mind to do so, and at one time did not use it for over twelve months; then I was again in bondage to the habit. The effort of human will was repeated three times and the result was of shorter duration each time. I was never free from the desire, and finally the point was reached where I had no peace or rest, and was firmly convinced that there was nothing that could eliminate the longing. Upon reading in the Christian Science Sentinel and Journal testimonies of healing of the tobacco habit similar to mine, I thought if it had healed others it might possibly heal me. So I asked for treatment, but with no real expectation of receiving help, and I did not receive the healing at that time. Later on, however, not so much because tobacco was hurting me, but because the habit was becoming so offensive to me, I thought I would try Christian Science again, but this time with some effort and sacrifice on my part. I asked for help and was healed in the selfsame hour. That was many years ago, and I have never had the desire since. At that time I thought it was the greatest healing that could ever come to me.
I have had cases of illness among my stock which Christian Science has healed wonderfully, and with each demonstration I am more thankful to God for His protecting care. Truly words are inadequate to express my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for her great love for mankind in giving the world the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and all of her other writings wherein the true seeker may find peace, "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding." I am glad I am a subscriber for the Christian Science literature; it is fulfilling its mission in uplifting and benefiting mankind. This testimony is given with the sincere desire to help some one struggling under the bondage of some false belief. The following lines from one of our hymns (No. 53) beautifully express my desire:—
Help us to help each other, Lord,
Each other's cross to bear;
Let each his friendly aid afford,
And feel his brother's care.
