Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science came to me in...

From the April 1921 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science came to me in the year 1917. In July of that year I had been placed on the operating table for a third operation. When the incision was made the doctors, three in number, claimed my case was hopeless, saying that my whole inward organism was cancerous, and they sent me home to die. About this time a friend of mine came from another city to consult my husband about having Christian Science treatment for me. We knew little or nothing about Science, but my husband said to ease my suffering he would agree to anything, and if I came home healed it would be worth everything to him, so with the happy hope of what Christian Science could do I decided to return home with my friend. The doctors and others expressed doubt of my ever reaching there, and said my friend was assuming a great responsibility in taking me away. The reply she made, that divine Love would take care of all, was of itself something to lean upon and a grand truth. Surely the government is upon His shoulders, for in twenty-eight days I was perfectly healed of all the old ailments, which were not a few.

I would like to mention here an incident which occurred during my stay in the hospital. One night I was suffering extreme pain, and those about me thought I was passing away, a message to that effect having been sent to a brother. I opened my Bible and my eyes fell on these words from Jeremiah: "Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous. There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up; thou hast no healing medicines." The thought then came to me to read on further, and I read: "Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey. For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after." The truth of these words was realized after I was healed, and it was proved that "man's extremity is God's opportunity."

On page 599 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy gives us the spiritual interpretation of Zion, which is in part: "Spiritual foundation and superstructure; inspiration; spiritual strength." I am truly grateful for Christian Science, which has given me a better and clearer understanding of the Bible, and a right concept of prayer. I am grateful for the spiritual awakening which Christian Science has brought to me, for in the words of Mrs. Eddy (Science and Health, p. 548), "Earth has little light or joy for mortals before Life is spiritually learned." I trust my testimony may awaken others to seek the truth, a knowledge of which our Master said would make us free.—
