Christian Science came into my life about fourteen years ago when I was just starting out into the world, not having any human father or mother to help me along life's journey. Christian Science proved to me that there is only one Father-Mother God, and that if we truly rely on Him He shows us the way. I have had some beautiful healings, two of which I should like to mention, as they were so helpful to me. One was of a very badly swollen foot. I asked help from a practitioner, and though the healing was slow I was very thankful, as it taught me to be more patient and more loving to my fellow man. During this time a very sullen temper left me, for which I was very grateful, as it had caused me a great deal of misery.
The other healing referred to took place last fall when I was crossing the Atlantic. I had never been on the sea before and was told by all unfriends that I would surely be seasick, and so I was, after being out on the ocean a few hours. I kept declaring the truth and endeavored to realize the omnipresence of God, but did not seem to get any better, and after two days I began to feel very weak, but endeavored to know that God is my strength, and these words came to me from page 393 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good." I was instantaneously healed, and finished the voyage with a grateful heart, for I had proved that, as one of our hymns says, "God is present everywhere."
The ability to help others is what we should be most grateful for, however, as we thereby gain a better understanding of God; also in daily fulfilling our duty to God we prove whether we are living a life that makes us worthy to be called Christian Scientists. I have had many other proofs and healings and am most grateful for Christian Science, and hope to learn more of this wonderful truth.—New Albany, Indiana.
