Testimonies of Healing

I wish to express my gratitude for...

From the June 1922 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to express my gratitude for the innumerable blessings and healings that have come to me and to my family, through Christian Science. I am always especially grateful when [ think of the health, hope, and freedom from fear which even a little understanding of Christian Science brings to an inexperienced mother of little children, it was when our three older children were quite small that Christian Science was first brought to my attention. I had very little confidence in my own ability to do just the best thing for them, and I was beginning to find that the baby-specialist, in whom I trusted implicitly, did not know much more about my babies' needs than I did.

At that time we thought it was necessary to take our babies North each summer, to insure their health; and while North in the summer of 1913, my attention was attracted to Christian Science, because of an instantaneous healing, which I witnessed of a very painful and seriously smashed foot. This healing made a strong impression upon me; and I determined to find out more about the religion that does heal the sick and proves the teachings of Jesus the Christ. The Christian Scientist, at my questioning, told me the name of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures'' by Mary Baker Eddy, saying she thought I would enjoy it; and, very wisely, she said no more on the subject.

On my return home, about the first thing I did was to send to the public library for that wonderful book. I did not claim to understand it; but I knew Christian Science was what I wanted. My prayer had always been that I might be shown the better way; and I knew that in Christian Science my prayer was answered. With the little understanding I soon gained, and without the help of a practitioner, we soon found that we were not kept awake winter nights because of sore throats, and coughing, feverish, and restless little children, as had been our experience so much of the time before. I know that the truth, as taught in Christian Science, is not only a curative but also a preventive. I wish every mother of little children knew the joy and peace which Christian Science holds for every one who seeks the Christ, as therein taught.
