I am glad to express in this way my appreciation of and gratitude for what Christian Science has done and is doing for me and for my family. It came to me in a time of great need. I had been suffering for about eight years from the so-called after effects of typhoid fever, for which material remedies offered no cure. Our family physician, also specialists in Chicago, said I never would be well again, and that they could give only temporary relief. A neighbor, who had found help through Christian Science, gave me some Christian Science Sentinels to read, and told me the help her family had received from the study. I was not ready to look into it then, as I had accepted the physicians' verdict, and thought I had to go on suffering until the end. About this time, however, our daughter, who had never been strong, had a complete breakdown, and was unable to carry on her work as a school-teacher. Then I decided to look into Christian Science on her account. I visited a practitioner, and she told me God was our loving Father, who never sent sickness or trouble to His children; and that we, as His children, could claim all His promises. I had a treatment, bought the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and took up the study in connection with the Bible. We sent for a practitioner for our daughter, who was healed in one treatment.
When I learned in Christian Science that God is not the author of suffering and death, that the right understanding of Him is life eternal, and that the promises of the Bible are for us here and now, it brought the joy that passeth all understanding, and the healing of many discordant conditions. I have been healed of indigestion, nervous sick headaches, neuralgia, a lameness of the lower limb, and many other things. It is now about sixteen years since we first looked to Truth for help, to God, who does heal all our diseases. The physical healing is not to be compared with the spiritual inspiration and understanding gained; and I can say with the Psalmist, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits."
I am grateful to God, and to all who have helped me to find the straight and narrow way.—De Kalb, Ill.
