Testimonies of Healing

I wish to express, in so far as I...

From the July 1924 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to express, in so far as I can do so in words, my deep gratitude for the blessings brought into my life by Christian Science, as revealed by God to this age through His trusted and well-beloved servant, Mary Baker Eddy.

I was brought up in Christian Science, and grew to manhood without knowing the taste of medicine. During this period I was healed of many of the diseases common to children, and later, on many occasions, of colds and headaches. On reaching manhood, however, I became indifferent to Christian Science, and fell into bad habits, although never doubting that Christian Science was the truth and that it healed the sick. When in England, in 1917, 1 became broken in health. The trouble was diagnosed as tuberculosis; and I was sent to a sanitarium. This had a tendency to frighten me, as my brother had passed on with this disease. I turned to Christian Science for help, but knew that I should have to change my thinking and living in order to receive healing. I received benefit from the treatment from the very first, but my healing was slow, as there had to be mental and moral regeneration. I was first healed of the liquor and tobacco habits, the latter of which I was in bondage to. As I earnestly studied the Bible and the works of our beloved Leader, I found the truth gradually unfolding to me, and could put more into practice all the time; and as I became purified and receptive, the healing came. After returning to Canada I was completely healed, and returned to my original work as a forester, which involved trying labor and hardships in the woods; but through the unfailing care and loving government of our heavenly Father, I was able to carry on with this work and rejoice all the time that I was really about the Father's business.

While deeply grateful for the physical healing, I am most thankful for my regeneration, and for the understanding of God and man's relationship to Him which I am gaining every day. My greatest pleasure is to study the Bible and our Leader's writings. I am striving to live Christian Science, and to show my gratitude for all that our faithful Leader has done for us, through her revelation and earthly labors and loving counsel, by doing what I can for the Cause of Christian Science and to further her efforts to bring to mankind the understanding of the all-powerful government of our infinite Father-Mother God, divine Love.
