It is with a heart full of gratitude to God and to Christian Science that I tell of the first two healings I had in Christian Science. I was discharged from the army as a physical wreck. The doctors told me that nothing further could be done for me. At that time I was living in Macon, Georgia. A dear friend from Louisville, Kentucky, said to me, "Why don't you try Christian Science?" But the thought came to me that if the doctors could not help me, nothing could. However, we then went to the Reading Room and borrowed "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
On opening the book at the Preface, I read the opening passage, so well known to all Christian Scientists, which means to me more than words can express: "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." When I first read those words I did not understand them, and turned over the pages until I came to the chapter on Prayer. Then I commenced to read, chiefly out of curiosity; and to my surprise in eight weeks I was healed, after all the doctors had said there was no cure. At the same time I was healed of chronic constipation, to which I had been subject since I was quite a little boy; and since the healings, over five years ago, I have not had a return of either trouble.
I am also grateful to God and to Christian Science for making me better both morally and spiritually. Words fail to express all the heartfelt gratitude I feel I owe to God, divine Principle; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; and to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for her loving devotion in giving to the world this healing truth as taught by Christ Jesus. All who avail themselves of this truth, and adhere to its precious precepts, are rewarded according to their understanding. I am indeed grateful for Christian Science.—Syracuse, N. Y.
