Hon. William E. Brown, C. S. B., of Los Angeles, California, is a native of Rochester, New York, where he spent his boyhood, being educated in the public schools there. Mr. Brown lived in San Francisco, and moved to Los Angeles, California, where he was engaged in commercial pursuits before he became interested in Christian Science, in 1890. He was in command of the Signal Corps, Second Brigade, of the National Guard of California. Mr. Brown was a member of the California Senate for eight years. He is a member of Third Church of Christ, Scientist, Los Angeles, where he has served as President, as a member of its Board of Directors, and as First Reader. He has also been Committee on Publication for the southern section of the state of California, and has devoted his time exclusively to the practice of Christian Science since 1908. He served in France during the World War. Mr. Brown was a Primary Class graduate of the Board of Education in 1903.
Mr. Richard J. Davis, C. S., of Chicago, Illinois, attended the public schools there, and later the University of Chicago. He further pursued his studies in Europe. Mr. Davis has been engaged in work in connection with our Cause since his school days, having been employed by The Christian Science Publishing Society for a period of ten years, after which, during the World War, he was commissioned a Chaplain in the United States Navy, and served overseas. He began the practice of Christian Science during his service with the Publishing Society, and since his release from the Navy, has devoted his time exclusively to this work. Mr. Davis served as Reader at the services conducted under the auspices of The Mother Church at the State Prison in Charlestown, and at the Charlestown Navy Yard. He has just completed a term of Readership in Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, Chicago, Illinois. He joined The Mother Church in 1903.
Mr. Robert Stanley Ross, C. S., of New York City, received his early education in Auburn, New York; after which he became a special student at Syracuse University, and later took special work at Harvard. Previous to beginning the work of a Christian Science practitioner, which he has carried on since 1917, Mr. Ross was engaged in newspaper work, for a time being employed by The Christian Science Publishing Society, in Boston. He has been in interested in Christian Science for eighteen years, and joined The Mother Church in 1907. He is a member of Eighth Church of Christ, Scientist, New York City, which he has served as First Reader. He was also Committee on Publication for the state of New York during the period of 1914-1917.
