The protecting power of Christian Science...

From the July 1924 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The protecting power of Christian Science was beautifully proved for us on Christmas morning a few years ago, when just outside our home something serious went wrong with the electric wiring system, so that a very high voltage of electricity passed through the house, and I came in contact with it. I had asked a practitioner for treatment for a slight trouble the evening before, and it was given. There was no occasion to feel alarmed in any way; but about five o'clock in the morning the practitioner became aware that there was a need to work again for me; and it was evidently about this time that I got up when partly asleep, and while leaning against a hot water radiator, attempted to turn on the light. I never knew what happened to me as I was rendered unconscious, and no one in the house knew there was need for help; yet the practitioner felt impelled to give it.

It must have been an hour or more before I became conscious enough to attract my mother's attention, when she discovered that I was very cold, and that my hand, leg, face, and body were burned. Christian Science treatment was at once given for this. There was no thought of any material remedy,—God was depended on as the only help. Later, when fear of disfigurement was expressed, that was also denied. The electric company's physician, who called, said that the air should be kept from the wounds or they would prove very painful. I had already been in the outside air, and felt no pain. The healing of this condition was beautiful, there being absolutely no suffering; and each difficulty that arose was met and mastered through Christian Science. I was even able to remove, without pain, a ring that was burned into the flesh.

This healing and protection has been an inspiration to others who witnessed it, as well as to our family. Also, we feel great gratitude for the fact that the practitioner was ready to recognize my need for help. We rejoice in this added proof of the truth of God's promise, "Before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear."
