What an inspiration are the words of the Nazarene Prophet, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." I can gladly testify to such a rebirth through the teachings of Christian Science, in which I became interested about two years ago. Previous to that time, like many others, I wrongfully criticized, ridiculed, and condemned this wonderful and powerful truth. I did not know, nor did I understand, its teachings; and little did I realize that some day I should have an opportunity to prove its efficacy.
The truth as revealed in Christian Science found me when I was suffering mentally and physically. For eight years I had been in a condition of misery due to a combination of stomach and bowel trouble diagnosed by a specialist as inflammatory and catarrhal. The symptoms were chronic constipation,nausea,and constant headaches. During all this time, almost daily, I had taken laxatives or other medicines, but without results. I was admonished not to eat this, that, or the other thing; and every time I did, there were direful results. A large consumption of medicine and a strict dietary did not relieve, much less heal, the condition. I was a slave to a medicinal god, until Christian Science found me. Three days after receiving my first treatment from a practitioner, through spiritual unfoldment I was healed.
Having started up the ladder Soul ward, from then on I have been healed of many discordant conditions,—of mental troubles and their physical manifestations. I soon discovered, however, that man is harmonious, mentally and physically, only in the ratio of his obedience to God's immutable laws,—laws which require constant self-immolation, are unchanging and unbending, and do not permit of deviation or an easier road to health, happiness, or harmony.
