[Written for the Journal]

A PRAYER

From the August 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We cannot walk alone; oh, help us Lord
To see and know the true things in thy realm;
To see and know the true, and know we know,
And feel our Father's hand is at the helm.

"Closer than breathing" Thou art said to be;
And we do need Thy guidance in the heart,
We get so tired of thoughts that lead from Thee;
And we would know and choose the better part.

From garish day, we now would seek Thy shade,
Oh, lead us in the paths true feet have trod,
For we are weary of the things that fade,
And now would venture on the way to God.

Even while asking we can feel Thee near;
Oh, what a sweetness there is in that rest;
We now can lay us down in peace to sleep,
Knowing that Thou art here, and we are blest.

The Lord our Shepherd is; in pastures green
We now can walk beside the waters clear;
For Thou art with us, and Thy rod and staff
Have led us; and Thou dry'st the weary tear.
