When I found Christian Science...

From the August 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When I found Christian Science I was not searching for it. Indeed, I was neither sick nor discouraged. I was living a religion which had not taught me either to know God or how to serve Him, but with which, nevertheless, I was indolently satisfied. But when I found Christian Science, it forced itself upon me, overwhelmed me with its light as day overpowers night, dazzled me; and its clearness led me to the God of love,—infinite divine Principle, Life, and Truth. The omnipresence and omnipotence of God, which it revealed to me, has helped me many times. I have overcome numerous difficulties, and have solved many problems arising from mental or financial crises. I have been freed from fear, which thwarted most of my daily efforts and seemed to raise a barrier to the success of whatever I undertook.

Christian Science has enlarged my horizon to infinite possibilities! I have understood through it with the reading of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy,—which is truly a "key" to the Scriptures,— these words of the Bible: "The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise." This wonderful assurance has helped me in my work. I have been able to do work for which I did not, to human sense, seem prepared. I have also seen morbid doubts disappear from me. Even in the midst of painful conditions, I have known joy—the only great, true, spiritual joy, which comes by reducing evil to nothingness, and which, even in the presence of error, permits us to "quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord." This help, in which one has to believe as the child believes in the goodness of his parents and expects all,—this help is, through Christian Science, a present and enlightening comfort.

I am profoundly grateful to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who consecrated her life to the discovery and founding of this Science, which is revealing to us again the great truth of the healing Christ. I am grateful also to all, students or practitioners, who have helped me with their understanding, and have extended to me a brotherly hand on the upward way.—
