I had the great blessing to be led...

From the February 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I had the great blessing to be led to Christian Science eleven years ago. I was a physical wreck. I had bowel, stomach, liver, kidney, and heart trouble; also sciatica and hardening of the arteries. I had attempted to destroy myself several times. Now, I am healed ; but because the darkness was great in me, it was three years before I received the light (spiritual understanding) through the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner.

I cannot forget that glorious morning when I received the first spiritual inspiration, for at the same time the thought came to me: What is this? All the money in the world cannot buy this! Certainly we cannot buy the love of God; but we can and must strive for it. I said, "At least I can say that God is Love;" and I prayed, "Father, teach me to love; teach me the life of love." Our Father gives us our heart's desire; for now I know what it is to love. To love is to be obedient to the Word of God, as Christian Science reveals it in the Bible. Then we feel the love of God and become laborers in His vineyard, and can help to awaken our dreaming brothers to an understanding of our loving Father-Mother God.

"Our God is Love, unchanging Love,
And can we ask for more?
Our prayer is vain that asks increase;
'T was infinite before "
