I have been a student of Christian Science for about seven years. At first I felt very much prejudiced against it, since it was so different from the usual way of believing in a corporeal God, which I had been taught all my life. However, my desire for the real truth of God and a clearer understanding of the Bible, of which I had always been an earnest student, led me on in my study of Mrs. Eddy's wonderful book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." About this time we moved to another state, where I met a kind Scientist friend. This friend presented me with a copy of Science and Health, also of "Miscellaneous Writings;" and gradually, through the study of these books and her loving help, all fears and doubts about God and His relation to man were overcome. During these years of earnest study I have experienced many wonderful proofs of God's ever present care.
With the help of a loving practitioner I was healed of sick headaches which had recurred for many years. The treatment lasted only one hour; and although the attack was so severe that I was prostrate, I was able to get up and dress after that hour, and walk downtown. The feeling of relief and peace was wonderful, and I felt strong and well. These severe headaches have never returned, and I am deeply grateful.
About two years ago our daughter, then aged nine, seemed badly attacked with scarlet fever, which was prevalent in our locality. At the urgent request of my husband, who at that time had little understanding or faith in Christian Science, a doctor was called. In the meantime we set to work in Christian Science, my daughter and I, to overcome this claim of error; and the girl was quickly healed. When the doctor arrived and diagnosed the case, he felt in doubt as to whether it really was scarlet fever, as no rash had broken out, although there had seemed to be other symptoms. However, he thought best to quarantine us. To this we submitted, but the child was not in bed at all, and even played out-of-doors although it was January. For this proof of God's love and care, my daughter and I are very grateful.
