Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science has healed me...

From the November 1927 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has healed me of chronic stomach trouble, which seemed to be a part of my lot ever since I was a small child. Many home remedies were tried, but only temporary relief resulted. As time went on the trouble became worse. Then I began doctoring with physicians, and continued until their various methods and medicines seemed to aggravate instead of relieve. On my way home from a six weeks' trial of change and rest prescribed, I stopped to visit a sister in Chicago. One evening while I was there the old trouble came upon me, and my sister, who was studying Christian Science, gave me a treatment. I slept very comfortably all night, and felt well the next morning. After I had been home and busy at the office for about three weeks, another attack came on, so I left my home in the South and went West. In two weeks conditions seemed to be worse than ever. My sister in Chicago had supplied me with a copy of The Christian Science Journal, having marked the name of the practitioner in the town in which I was then living. So I went to this practitioner for treatment, which was very lovingly given. Through her I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Help was received very quickly, but like some who followed Jesus and who, he said, sought him for the loaves and the fishes, I sought only the physical healing. I neglected reading and everything else that it was my part to do, and again I turned to material ways and means. At the end of a year and a half the old trouble seemed to return with renewed energy, at which time I was forced to turn to Christian Science in earnest. I sought the help of a practitioner, went to the Sunday services, and made an effort to study the lesson every day. After a time I also went to the Wednesday evening testimony meetings, doing in every way the little I could do. These efforts brought their reward. My healing was very slow, but that was my fault—many moral lessons had to be learned and much wrong thinking corrected. I am indeed grateful for the slow healing, as I was forced to study the Bible, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and her other works.

Catarrh has also been healed, although no specific work was done for it. Many minor healings and many improvements have been brought about through gaining some understanding of the true God and man's relationship to Him. More happiness and harmony is also manifested in our home. I am very grateful for every blessing, whether it appear large or small, which has come through the study and help received through Christian Science; grateful also to all who have helped me. The greatest blessing that has come, the one I am most grateful for, is the spiritual enlightenment; and sometimes this has seemed to come through the hardest trials. I am deeply grateful for all the literature; for the privilege of having it all in our home; for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; for class instruction; and also for the privilege of teaching in the Sunday school. Indeed, I am grateful for every avenue through which can be received this wonderful healing message by those waiting and ready to receive it. My earnest desire is that my daily life may express in deeds of love and helpfulness the truth I have found and am finding daily in Christian Science.—
