In the autumn of 1922 I was taken suddenly ill with pains in my body. My husband sent for a doctor, who diagnosed the case as one of fever and, at his third visit, pronounced it peritonitis. Another physician was called at once, who said the peritonitis had been neglected and had developed into ascites. As I had heard of Christian Science, I immediately began to read in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and so became free from fear. But my husband became very much alarmed when the physician ordered my removal to the hospital.
Instead of going to the hospital, however. I went home to my relatives, where I immediately telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner for help, which was at once lovingly given. On the third day the fever completely disappeared. I was also able to get up every morning. In five weeks my body had regained its normal size, and I was able to return to my husband. It is my constant desire to be able to obey the teachings of our dear Leader as they are found in her books; for I am thoroughly convinced that only by doing so can we gain and maintain health and happiness.
