THE MOUNTAIN PATH

From the November 1927 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Take now thy son,... whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains."—Genesis 22:2.

If Truth to thee makes strong appeal,
Then Truth, requiring all thy best,
Will surely lay to thee such test
As will thine inmost heart reveal.

Truth's test thy progress will not bar;
Rough is the path to holy heights,
Yet 'tis the way to pure delights,
To temple fair that gleams afar.

As thou the steep ascent dost climb,
Love with its clear consuming fires
Will cleanse for thee thy heart's desires,
And wake a love that's pure, sublime.

Shouldst thou Moriah's heights attain,
The sacrifice God will provide.
If all to God thou dost confide,
To thee God's blessings e'er remain.
