Christian Science came to me a little over four years ago, when I was without hope in the world. It mastered many discordant conditions, including a desire to die and a dread of the grave (see Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 426).
After spending two years in sanitariums, to which I had been sent after suffering from a severe nervous breakdown, I came back to New York showing no evidence of improvement. For two years I had been unable to sleep, even though I had been given the strongest sleeping medicines. It was impossible during this time for me to secure more than two hours' sleep a night. In one absent Christian Science treatment I was instantaneously healed of insomnia. This proved to me conclusively that, as Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 179), "Space is no obstacle to Mind." After this gratifying healing I began to study the letter of Christian Science, to "imbibe the spirit" (ibid., p. 495), and to aim to practice it in daily life. In overcoming the belief in nerves, the belief that there is life, substance, and intelligence in matter, I found my greatest help in the realization that there is but one Mind, the divine Mind, and that Mind is not compressed within a skull bone.
Christian Science has aided me in my occupation. Through the realization of true substance I have tripled my income in a year's time. It has also taught me who my Father-Mother really is. Needless to say, I am more than grateful to God; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; to Mrs. Eddy, whose priceless work is a source of inspiration and help to one who is striving to reach the spiritual heights where God is known; and to the loving, intelligent, and wisely guiding practitioner who has taught me how to plant my feet on the firm path.— New York, New York.
