It has been over twenty-four years since I first heard of Christian Science. At that time I had been under the care of a physician for nine years.
Christian Science was brought to my attention through my daughter, who was about to be operated on. Just a day before this operation was to take place, a friend came and told me about Christian Science. At that time I had never heard anything about it and did not know what it was. She then explained to me what the teachings of Christian Science are. I was willing to give it a fair trial, for at that time I was nothing but a physical wreck myself. Through its teachings, and with the help of God, I have been healed of rupture, cancer, eye trouble, consumption, a sore toe which had been under the doctor's care for over three years, and many other ailments. I went faithfully to the Wednesday evening testimony meetings and Sunday services. My healing was slow. Some of my difficulties were overcome with the aid of a practitioner. At other times I was able to do the work myself.
When I took up the study of Christian Science, the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was written only in English, and as I could read only German, I could grasp but little. I held steadfastly to the Bible. I also wish to thank the many friends who helped me in my early study of Christian Science. After several years it was my desire to be able to read the Christian Science textbook, and through the help of God I became able to read English. The translation of our textbook into German has been a help to me in gaining a better understanding of God.
