Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science found me in...

From the January 1928 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science found me in a desperate condition, ill with a prolonged attack of pleuro-pneumonia. My illness seemed the more serious because the physicians had placed me under the law of inherited tuberculosis. Upon the advice of the physician attending me I had undergone three operations on the nose and had also submitted to the removal of my tonsils. It was the effects of the anæsthetic taken for the operation on the tonsils which brought on the pleuro-pneumonia.

Within an hour after Christian Science treatment was asked for, improvement began; and from that time I gradually regained my health. A persistent cough, of which I was very fearful, seemed slower to yield. Previously I had seemed able to find relief for this condition only by placing a cold compress upon my chest. The night after turning to Christian Science for help, I was seized with an unusually severe paroxysm of coughing, and finally I asked if I might have the compress on my chest. When the practitioner was called on the telephone, she replied that one must choose between Truth and matter, because faith could not be divided between the two. That night's test was a severe one, but I have always felt that it gave me the foundation for my restoration to health: for, on the following day when a fuller explanation was given me of the truth as taught in Christian Science, I was brought to understand the purely spiritual nature of man, and the necessity, therefore, of a purely spiritual reliance when one turns to God for healing. Thereafter, in making these practical truths my own, I watched my thought in the smallest details. I had hitherto found relief for a chronic condition of irritation in the throat by taking a sip of water or eating a piece of hard candy. But now I turned to God for relief from this condition, and was soon permanently healed. This work greatly aided in overcoming the cough.

I am most grateful to God for Christian Science, which has truly proved in my case to be "the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony" (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1). I am grateful to our Master and Way-shower; Christ Jesus, who centuries ago perfectly proved this law in overcoming sickness and all manner of sin. And I am most lovingly grateful to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who was sufficiently consecrated and pure of heart to discover this law, so that we to-day may be healed by it.—
