GROWTH

From the January 1928 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When Truth dawned first upon my sight,
Revealing power unknown,
I thought to reach some height sublime,
And walk with God alone.

I looked beyond the things at hand
To find deeds more divine,
And thought in far transcendencies
To see Love's glory shine.

With fine abstractions—reasoning's art—
I seemed in dreams to stray,
And stumbling on through theories,
Completely lost the way.

....

Father, I thank Thee for Thy love,
Its tender, changeless code,
That brought my feet from peaks of pride
Down to the valley road,

And taught me that in humble ways
I best could walk with Thee,
And helped me see Thy image pure
In those who walked with me.

Transformed the daily human needs!
Through every task I trace
The beauty of simplicity,
The potency of grace.
