Words are inadequate to express my deep gratitude for Christian Science. I am very grateful to God; to Christ Jesus; and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy; also for our literature and the church services and the Reading Rooms.
I have been in Christian Science for over fifteen years, and have never known it to fail when rightly applied. I have seen so many things "that flesh is heir to" vanish when the truth has been applied. We have two children, and they have had the so-called children's diseases, including smallpox, but they have never lost a minute from play or school except to obey the health rules of the state. They had the mumps about the end of the week, during one winter. They were completely over the trouble by school time on Monday.
When our son was a little boy he ran a rusty nail deep into his bare foot. Our neighbors suggested all sorts of remedies, but I took him aside and declared the truth to him. He was well next day, and played about as usual. At another time our daughter, when small, ran a long sliver of wood into her knee. She complained of her knee hurting, but I talked the truth to her, and paid no more attention until the next morning, when she came to me to fasten her stocking. I noticed the sliver sticking out below the knee and pulled it out without her knowing it until I showed it to her. At another time she complained of a pain in her side, as if something were hurting her. I examined her to see if her clothing might be rubbing against her flesh, and I found her side very badly ridged. I did not know what was wrong, but by declaring the truth I saw the trouble vanish.
