I was not attracted to Christian Science by physical healing; but I have had many proofs of physical healing, as well as help out of many discordant conditions, since taking up the study. I had been a victim of nervous headaches since childhood, and these have vanished.
It was by the tender love and kindly interest of a dear Christian Scientist that I was drawn to love Christian Science, and to love the influence which seemed to surround Christian Scientists. However, at that time, I regret to say, I did not see the importance of making a study of it for myself, but depended entirely on others' helping me, being bound by a sense of fear and inability to understand it. Later on, I was left to work out my own problems, and after much sorrow and unhappiness I was able to retrace my steps. I am very grateful, indeed, that Mrs. Eddy has made it so plain that this understanding "is not the result of scholarly attainments; it is the reality of all things brought to light" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 505).
I am grateful to know that divine Love has led me these many years; and that I have been wonderfully protected, not only from sickness, but from every seeming difficulty. I am grateful for my teacher, who so patiently pointed out to me the things I seemed unable to understand. My desire is to increase in knowledge, and, as our beloved Leader has instructed us, to follow her "only so far as she follows Christ" (Message to The Mother Church for 1901, p. 34), which will lead to perfection.— Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
