My attention was first attracted to Christian Science in the early part of 1909 through the almost instantaneous restoration to health and harmony of a very dear friend, who had reached what seemed to the material senses a hopeless state through typhoid and pneumonia. Very soon after witnessing this healing I took up the study of Christian Science in earnest. During the years since then it has met all my needs ; and they have not been few. Without thought of physical healing, although in great need of it, and without treatment, during the first six months of my study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, her other works, and the Christian Science periodicals, I was healed of an eye trouble for which I was wearing a third pair of glasses; also of a rupture of the stomach from which I had suffered so long that I could not remember ever having been free from pain. I felt such freedom that life seemed one psalm of gratitude and praise. Since that time I have been healed of many other ills, namely, internal goiter, influenza, eczema, measles, chronic sick headaches, colds, corns, warts, cuts, burns, sties. For these and for many other physical healings I am very grateful; but for the spiritual enlightenment that Christian Science has given me I know no language whereby to express my gratitude and joy.
I am very grateful for the perfect health I now enjoy, for the dominion over many faults of character—the desire to criticize, resentment, jealousy, irritability, sensitiveness. I am thankful for the understanding which Christian Science has given me of work. It is such a privilege to know that the only true work is to be about the Father's business. I cannot thank God enough for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; for the revelation of Christian Science through Mary Baker Eddy, whose life of purity enabled her to see God as only the "pure in heart" can see Him; for all the church activities, including the Sunday services and Wednesday evening meetings, Sunday school, the periodicals and their missionary work, the Reading Rooms, lectures, practitioners, church officers ; and for the refining, purifying influence any service rendered the Cause of Christian Science brings to those who serve, in whatever capacity.
I am striving daily better to express my gratitude through more instantaneous healings of whatever is unChristlike.—Dallas, Texas.
