When I first knew of Christian Science, I was in great need. I had what was called by the doctors a very bad case of blood poisoning. My ankle was seriously affected, the bone being carious. A surgeon who operated on it said that if I lived I must lose my foot and ankle. This caused great fear; and as I continued in this condition for three months, I was very much discouraged, having no faith in any cure. While I was in this mental state a friend told me about Christian Science and advised me to see a practitioner. I did so, but with no expectation of getting help. The practitioner was so confident that I could be healed, and showed so much love and patience with me, that I began to have hope, although my condition was seemingly much worse for a while. I could see that this made no impression on the practitioner, and while many other discordant and discouraging things came up at that time, I was enabled to hold on to the truth through the calm assurance given me, and especially by the references she gave me to study from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and through the study of the Lesson-Sermon.
In six months I was completely healed, not only of blood poisoning, but of varicose veins and indigestion, which had troubled me for years before' having Christian Science treatment. That was eight years ago. Since then the healing of my troubled thought has seemed greater than the healing of disease.— Rochester, New Hampshire.
