It is with joy and a heart filled with gratitude that I wish to express my thankfulness for all the good received from Christian Science. This great truth was taught me when I was apparently in "the valley of the shadow of death." Since birth I had had a very delicate constitution, and all the physicians consulted said that my life would not be long.
At the beginning of July, 1925, I was taken with grippe and severe bronchitis accompanied by fever. After many months of suffering, in spite of the very devoted care of good doctors, my condition grew worse instead of better; moreover, acute gastritis developed. I could not retain any nourishment, not even a small cracker or a drop of water. I was so weak that at the slightest move I suffered greatly. The physician wished to take me to the hospital, saying that they could nourish me artificially; but I preferred to remain at home rather than go and possibly die at the hospital.
Having heard of several beautiful healings through Christian Science, I desired to hear something about this Science. My mother wrote to a practitioner who had aided a young man living near us. She came to see me. I was so weak that I could not speak to her, nor even shake hands with her. She gave me a treatment. After this first treatment I felt better, and began to take a little food which I was able to retain. I felt as though being born again. Each day I improved and began to read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. From the start I loved this reading, for I had never heard of anything so beautiful. Some weeks passed with my health improving, when suddenly, following great grief and fear, I had a relapse, was as low as ever, and my friends despaired of my life; and I was unconscious. But through the aid of the loving practitioner, I soon began to recover again.
