About six years ago, while attending a Christian Science lecture, I was healed of deafness in one ear of ten years' duration. After a serious attack of typhoid fever I had completely lost the hearing of my right ear. I had had Christian Science treatment at the time, but had not received a healing. I never talked about it, and only my immediate family were aware of it. On the night of the lecture I was seated in the rear of the crowded hall, and there was quite a sense of noise from the folding chairs in use. It required the closest attention to follow the lecturer as he carefully, step by step, showed the nothingness of matter and how our beloved Leader's prophetic statement in the article, "There Is No Matter" (Unity of Good, pp. 31-36), was being proved and accepted by modern science. I listened most intently, that I might be able to retell it that same evening to a young college student in my home. The next day it seemed to me that everyone was shouting instead of talking; I did not realize that my ear had become "unstopped" until I sat alone in a quiet room, where I heard the clock ticking loudly as if in a most unusual manner, and previously unheard street noises were loud and clear. This healing has been permanent, and I thank God for it; and I know that the Christ, Truth, manifested in every activity of The Mother Church carries out the original design of the latter, namely (Church Manual, p. 17), "To organize a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing."
I am ever more and more grateful for the gift of this priceless healing, and to know that countless other healings are taking place daily through the ministration of The Mother Church, the God-inspired plan of Mary Baker Eddy, of which the Board of Lectureship is but one activity. I have reason for unbounded faith in Christian Science as the means of salvation and healing for all mankind. — Santa Monica, California.
