I am far more grateful for the understanding I have of Christian Science, gained from reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, than my words can possibly express.
About ten years ago I believed I was the most discouraged and wretchedly unhappy person in the world, because for eight years I had been either acutely ill or a semi-invalid without sufficient strength for either work or play, or even for a comfortable existence. I could walk only two or three blocks, and that but seldom. It was while studying in New York that I had a severe fall on my back during the period when I was suffering from what seemed a nervous breakdown. Together, these things brought about a seemingly serious condition.
At the time of which I write, after going to several New York doctors and one more sanitarium, I came home apparently much worse, and much more discouraged than when I had left home a few months before. After a while I returned to a western city where I had taught, and found myself in a front room of a hotel looking across the street to a Church of Christ, Scientist.
