"The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say. Destroy them," we read in Deuteronomy. God, indeed, is our refuge; and it is with a deep sense of gratitude that I testify of an experience I had while visiting in a small winter resort in North Carolina.
One night we were suddenly aware of a crackling sound and of shouting. On investigation, we saw the whole sky lighted up for miles around. It was one of those dreaded forest fires, and the wind was heading the conflagration toward us. Preparations were made to leave the house; but, instead of going, we commenced to know the truth and to realize that God was our protection. The flames crept nearer; the heat was intense; yet in the midst of all the excitement we experienced a calm sense of the divine presence. The fire came within a few yards of the house, but no farther! The flames backfired, and we were safe. Truly, the enemy was thrust out from before us and destroyed.
I am also very grateful for an instantaneous healing of an organic trouble which took place while hearing a lecture on Christian Science.
