PACIFIC COAST SANATORIUM

From the March 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IT is our pleasure to announce that Articles of Incorporation have been signed for the Christian Science Benevolent Association for Pacific Coast. This Association will operate the sanatorium now in process of construction in San Francisco, the purposes and aims of which are identical with those of the original Massachusetts corporation bearing the name of The Christian Science Benevolent Association, which is operating a sanatorium at Chestnut Hill, and has been doing so since November 1, 1919.

A brief history of the development of The Christian Science Benevolent Association from the time when Mrs. Eddy originally indicated her approval of its purpose may be gathered from articles which have from time to time appeared in the Christian Science periodicals, the first of which was published in the Christian Science Sentinel of October 7, 1916. That announcement by The Christian Science Board of Directors quoted from Mrs. Eddy's letters and instructions showing her desire that The Mother Church "establish and maintain a Christian Science resort for the so-called sick," as she had expressed it to them under date of July 27, 1909.

The Trustees of the Pacific Coast home will be Mrs. Gertrude M. Glass, George D. Greenwood, and Marvin R. Higgins, all of California. Mrs. Glass became interested in Christian Science in 1893 through the healing of a prolonged illness by reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Mrs. Glass became a member of a branch church and of The Mother Church, and has served as a director in First and Fifth Churches of Christ, Scientist, in Chicago.
