"THE VITAL PART"

From the March 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

TWICE in one chapter the Apostle John avers that "God is love," and the Bible in many other places affirms the same fact in different words. On page 6 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes: "'God is Love.' More than this we cannot ask, higher we cannot look, farther we cannot go."

Because God is Love, it follows that Christian Science, which states the exact, demonstrable truth about God, presents the correct or infallible proof of divine Love. Therefore it is plain why Mrs. Eddy further declares (ibid., p. 113): "The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love. Without this, the letter is but the dead body of Science, —pulseless, cold, inanimate."

"The vital part ... of Christian Science, is Love"! A wonderful statement, involving a priceless lesson for each one of us to learn! "The vital part" signifies the inward or living part. To see divine Love as All-in-all, to know it, is to recognize the source of everything good, the secret of true happiness, joy, and prosperity. To see God as Love and to hold thought in unbroken harmony with Love is to establish one's unity with the divine, and thus to express our perfect spiritual selfhood.
