I learned of Christian Science about eighteen years ago through dear friends, and after I had studied the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, thoroughly, I gradually learned to recognize that all error obtains first of all in mortal mind, and is then manifested on the body. I also learned that as soon as we are able to silence error with right thinking, and to replace it with good thoughts, error, or evil, is no longer there, and we are healed.
Thus, partly through an earnest study of the Bible and the textbook and partly through the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner, I was able to overcome many errors, among others chronic constipation, rheumatism, pneumonia, the appetite for tobacco, and many other things. My wife was healed of an abdominal trouble of many years' standing, and of a complaint of the head, as well as more recently of a broken wrist caused by a fall. This healing was accomplished without the aid of a doctor and without bandages.
But one error I could not overcome in spite of earnest endeavor. It was that of a dogmatical disposition, or self-righteousness. The more I struggled to free myself of it the more it became evident. I not only saw and felt it in myself, but wherever I looked I noticed it in young and old, in big and little, in families, in all disputes and disagreements, in ancient and modern religious and other warfares. So I found myself before an almost overwhelming chaos of errors. And yet my understanding told me that it was a false mental picture, and that it was possible to destroy it all by right thinking, for in the kingdom of God, good, there is only harmony!
