Testimonies of Healing

After I took up the study of...

From the February 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

After I took up the study of Christian Science I felt sure that I had found a truly practical religion. As a child I went to church and Sunday school, but they did not seem to satisfy me. In later years I attended many different churches, but still had the feeling that they did not put into practice what was preached. I always felt that the healing of the sick should be practiced in the Christian churches.

At the age of eighteen I met a woman who had been healed by Mrs. Eddy. I was not in need of healing, so I did not think any more about it for many years. Then a friend, who was not able to get help from the best doctors of our town and surrounding towns and was preparing for an operation with very little hope of receiving help, was asked to try Christian Science. She did so, and in a short time the fear was gone and the healing came. I had not seen her for some time when I called one day and found her in perfect health. She told me God had healed her through Christian Science. She lent me a Christian Science Sentinel, and I became interested in it at once. Then she lent me "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I took it home, and both my husband and I felt that at last we had found a religion which practiced Jesus' teachings.

That occurred in 1915; in 1918 I took my last pill. Influenza was raging in our town. My husband was away at work, and I was alone. I was suddenly taken very ill in the night. I took everything I could think of, but kept getting worse. I had my farm duties to attend to, however, so I got up and did them, trusting that God would help me to do all that I needed to do. I stopped taking medicine, and He did help me. I kept trusting in Him, and read Science and Health when the pain in my head was not too severe. I was able to do all my work without calling for help. I have never taken medicine since, or used any material means. I have been healed of a bad knee which a doctor said would never be any better, but would become worse; also of hernia of three years' standing. I have been able to do all kinds of heavy work without any bad results. Six years ago I was helped to meet the sorrow which comes when a dear one passes away, and I have also been helped in business and in finding good positions and kind friends wherever I go.
