Testimonies of Healing

In gratitude for the many blessings...

From the February 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In gratitude for the many blessings received in Christian Science I give this testimony, hoping others may experience joy, peace, and love such as have come to me, and be benefited as I have been.

I was told about Christian Science, and read some of the literature because I was sick mentally and physically, unhappy, discouraged, longing to be through with life's struggles. The doctors I visited all advised an operation on the throat; and the last one said if I waited much longer it would be too late. However, I turned to Christian Science for help, and during my first visit with a practitioner was so uplifted that I felt as if I were walking on air; my outlook on life was changed, and I was healed. At the same time I was freed from the desire for social drinking, and later on the smoking habit was overcome. Then I learned what Jesus meant when he said, "They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." I was so happy to have found this wonderful truth that I wanted to tell everyone about it.

Since then five members of my family have become interested in Christian Science. All of them have had healings and many proofs of God's care, one of which I should like to relate. My mother was confined to her bed with a serious condition of the throat which caused choking spells that seemed quite alarming, and I was asked to come home. I went at once, finding her very ill. I asked her if she wished to have Christian Science treatment. She said she did, so the physician was dismissed and I telephoned to the practitioner who was helping me. My mother was quickly healed. This to me was wonderful, as it was done through absent treatment, and this was my first experience with absent help. Later, when my mother visited me, we called on the same practitioner, and my mother was healed of a kidney condition from which she had suffered for many years; at the same time the problem of change of residence worked out very harmoniously. These healings proved to me the truth of the passage in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 473): "The God-principle is omnipresent and omnipotent. God is everywhere, and nothing apart from Him is present or has power."
