I am grateful for all the blessings I have received through Christian Science, the knowledge of which came to me four or five years ago when I was in the depths of despair, having suffered for two years from a severe nervous breakdown. I had consulted over a dozen medical practitioners, and everything that was humanly possible had been done for me; yet when I was at last led to consult a Christian Science practitioner I was at the worst stage. The pains in the head were terrific; in fact, every organ of the body seemed out of order. I was also very melancholy. After all aid from medical science had failed, and after a sea trip which I was induced to take, I tried many patent medicines, but with the same result. A local chemist, of whom I was inquiring as to the ability of a certain medicine to heal cases of the same nature as mine, recommended Christian Science to me, and then and there telephoned to a practitioner and made an appointment for me to visit her that evening. I felt that this was my last hope, as I was suffering untold agony.
The practitioner received me kindly, and gave me such cheerful words of comfort and hope to dwell upon that I felt that here at last was my salvation. She supplied me with some Christian Science literature, and lent me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, to read at home. I read the literature and the textbook as well as I could; but it was very difficult for me to keep my thought upon it, particularly as one of the phases of the error was that I could not sit still for long. Treatment was continued regularly, and I shall never cease to be grateful for the loving-kindness, patience, and endurance of the practitioner who treated me. I am also grateful for help rendered by another practitioner, who took up my case during a period of three or four months when the first practitioner was away. The healing, although slow, was sure; and to-day I rejoice in better health than I have ever experienced. Severe headaches, to which I was subject from boyhood, and other minor errors have vanished into their native nothingness. Very soon after beginning the study of Christian Science I was able to return to office work, after more than two years' absence, and to all my former activities.
These are blessings for which I am extremely grateful; and I could relate many more that have come to our home. But more particularly am I grateful for the different outlook on life that has come to me with Christian Science, and for the greater knowledge of the Book of Life, which is so wonderfully elucidated by our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.
