At the time I took up the study of Christian Science I did not know what it would be like to be free from some ailment, for I had been under the doctor's care for a number of years. I was discouraged, and hardly able to work in the office where I was employed, being out a good part of the time. Having tried all material help, even consulting specialists who said that they could help me only temporarily, I was at the point of despair.
I lived in a small town where there were very few Christian Scientists, and I knew nothing about Science, except that six years before a member of my family had been healed of cancer through reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. She had been told by a number of surgeons that she could live only a few months.
I did not seem ready for this truth, until one day when I was in front of the doctor's office I broke down and cried, thinking how hopeless it was to go in there. While I was standing there the "still small voice" of God spoke to me and said, Go to see a practitioner. I went, and was healed of fear in the first treatment. After that some of the healings were slow, but this made me study and work for myself, and for that I am grateful.
