PROVING OUR DOMINION

From the December 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!" sang the Psalmist. Continuing, he asked concerning the nature of man, "What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?" and summarized the real man's character and being thus: "Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet."

The marvelous relation of man to God, who is infinite Love, thus indicated by the Psalmist, is amplified in the fuller explanation given in the Master's teaching, as illuminated by Christian Science. This Science teaches as a fundamental fact that God is the only cause or creator, the source or origin of all that really is. The true or real creation, which is man and the universe, is the image, likeness, or expression of the creator, God. It is therefore like Him throughout.

Since God is Spirit, or Mind, creation must be spiritual or divinely mental, and is understood in Christian Science to be God's compound idea. Furthermore, because creation is God's expression, it is infinite, perfect, and eternal, even as is God. Moreover, since creation, which is effect, is wholly dependent upon God as its cause, for existence and substance, it follows of necessity that God has complete dominion over "the works of his hands." This dominion, being inherent in Mind, God, is expressed, even as are all of the divine qualities of Deity, by His creation. Hence the statement which the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, makes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 516), "Man, made in His likeness, possesses and reflects God's dominion over all the earth."
