For many years Christian Science has been my only physician in sickness, my refuge in trouble, and my guide in perplexity. It has given me strength in weakness and courage when the way seemed dark. Through its teachings I have found God, who is Love, and who with tenderest care watches over all His creation.
The blessings that have come to me and to my dear ones through its ministrations are so manifold that only a few of them may here be mentioned. Inflammatory rheumatism, heart trouble, influenza, and many minor discords have been healed in my family. A son was healed of what was diagnosed as para-typhoid after physicians had said he could live only a few hours. In just three weeks I brought him home from the hospital, where he had been cared for, a journey of over a thousand miles. In less than a year after this, at the time of the world war, he was examined for military duty and pronounced physically perfect.
When a child, I injured a knee while at play. At first little was thought of it, but as I grew to young womanhood the attacks of pain and lameness became more frequent and severe. The best medical skill available in Denmark, where I was then living, was employed and Swedish massage applied, but only temporary relief was obtained. After I came to this country, the trouble was finally diagnosed as a tubercular bone, and an immediate operation was urged. This was twenty-five years ago. My husband, who witnessed the operation, stated later that a chisel and mallet had been used to cut away pieces of the bone. I did not recover as the surgeon had expected, and was finally told that I had only a few months left to live. As a last resort, X-ray treatment was given; and as this also failed to help and I was rapidly losing strength, the kind physician advised me to get "Mrs. Eddy's book on Christian Science." I knew nothing whatever of this Science at the time, but as it seemed one more thing to try, I was in time put in touch with a Christian Science practitioner. Treatment was requested, and lovingly given, and a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy placed in my hands. I improved from the very first treatment.
