AN increasing recognition that the elements of war are to be found primarily in the mental attitude of the people has spread rapidly over the world in the last few years. The increasing emphasis on the need for good will is particularly gratifying to the Christian Scientist, for from his experience in healing sickness he knows that when discord is seen as an error of mortal mind a long step has been taken toward supplanting it with the harmony which proceeds from divine Mind.
A student of Christian Science has a further natural interest in endeavors which look toward the permanent establishment of world peace. From earliest Biblical times peace has been esteemed a blessing sent from God, and the Christian Scientist, having learned to think of God as universal, impartial, inexhaustible Love, consequently desires to reflect Love and share its blessings with all mankind through purified thinking.
Such a one looks hopefully toward the time foreseen by Isaiah when "nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." He is usually encouraged in this hope by recognizing that a deep and enduring peace has been brought into his consciousness through the knowledge that, as taught in Christian Science, God is good, is All-in-all, and is Father to all His children. The gradual unfoldment of these truths with their far-reaching implications has brought healing, both physical and moral, into the experience of thousands, removing the discord of disease, lifting anxiety, replacing enmity with understanding, and sweetening the course of human relationships with brotherliness and loving-kindness.
