GOD'S—LOVE'S—UNIVERSE

From the March 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"THE starting-point of divine Science is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind,—that God is Love, and therefore He is divine Principle." Thus does Mrs. Eddy write on page 275 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures;" and thus also may Christian Science be said to begin its teaching regarding God, teaching upon which is based its reasoning as to the nature of the universe—God's universe. In Christian Science the nature of God is defined, and from this foundation the whole structure of its teaching is reared.

Christian Science declares that God, the All-in-all, is Love. Being Love, or divine Principle, He is the cause of all that really exists, the cause of the entire universe, including individual man. Certain things become clear when God, Spirit or Mind, is cognized as the Principle of the universe. First, the universe— the real universe—is seen to consist of ideas. Secondly, these ideas, infinite in number, are recognized as spiritual and perfect. Thus, in reality there exists only God and His infinite universe of ideas.

While Christian Science reveals God as divine Principle, and the universe, or creation, as consisting of perfect spiritual ideas, it at the same time makes clear the fact that since God is Love His universe is absolutely protected, and must therefore be eternal. Here is a theme, most wonderful in itself, that the real creation, including man, is indestructible! How it constrains one to think! And as one begins to perceive the truth about real being, the light commences to dawn; and how great is the need of this light to those in the valley of material shadows, to those living under the conviction that the so-called material universe is real!
