I wish to express my gratitude for the clear light Christian Science sheds upon the Scriptures. The story of the Shunammite woman came to my aid in an hour of danger. One summer's day, when I was at home sewing, I had the conviction that something had happened to one of my boys. My two sons, who were of the age of ten and twelve, had gone with another boy to the river to play. I denied the suggestion and backed up my denial with verities I had learned from the study of Christian Science as given us by Mary Baker Eddy. I recalled the statement of the Shunammite woman, "It is well." What did God give me? Right ideas, which cannot be lost or destroyed. They are immortal, and exist in the divine Mind, where they are always safe. These arguments continued for some time, until the realization that "it is well" silenced the accuser. I continued to sew. About an hour later the boys came rushing into the house to tell their adventure. They had gone swimming, and my younger son had fallen into the deep hole that a sand dredge had made in the river bed. Not knowing how to swim he was sinking when the elder boy came to his rescue. For a moment it looked impossible to bring him to the shore; but soon the elder boy saw a tree root extending into the water, and grabbing hold of this he finally succeeded in bringing his brother to shore. Great was our gratitude for Christian Science, and for God's ever present help.
Christian Science has been invaluable in my life, helping me to overcome the errors of mortal sense by applying Christianity in its Science to the problems of daily living. Sprains, cuts, wounds, bruises, burns, the effects of falls, mumps, measles, tonsillitis, warts, scarlet fever, diphtheria, smallpox, and chicken pox have come to our family only to be shown to be the "waking dream-shadows" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mrs. Eddy, p. 418) they are, and utterly to disappear when the light of Christian Science has been applied.
I am thankful for the help of a faithful practitioner; for class instruction from a loyal teacher; for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church; and for the many avenues through which spiritual refreshment comes to us. I am each day learning more about God, as well as seeing more clearly the mission of Jesus, and appreciating the works of our Leader.—Wichita, Kansas.
